Where is our data?

Google has just opened a new data center in Amsterdam.
But where is it?
In the clouds?

Where is data physically stored and kept?
Why is it important to keep it secret?

All they give on their site is this pretty picture suggesting that Google dwells above the Earth. And an address of an office.

Inquiring further would lead you to a job offer: strategic negotiator. Isn’t that a definition for a cloudkeeper?
